The interior of the church is very bright, with massive engaged columns and pilasters on undecorated, white-surfaced walls. Interior Interior: The nave, looking east towards the high altar San Giorgio Maggiore at Dusk, Claude Monet, 1908–1912 On either side of the central portal are statues of Saint George and of Saint Stephen, to whom the church is also dedicated. ![]() This solution is similar to Palladio's slightly earlier facade for San Francesco della Vigna, where the other parts of the church had been designed by Sansovino. ![]() Palladio's solution superimposed two facades, one with a wide pediment and architrave, extending over the nave and both the aisles, apparently supported by a single order of pilasters, and the other with a narrower pediment (the width of the nave) superimposed on top of it with a giant order of engaged columns on high pedestals. The façade is brilliantly white and represents Palladio's solution to the difficulty of adapting a classical temple facade to the form of the Christian church, with its high nave and low side aisles, which had always been a problem. There is a fine view across Venice from the top. It was ascended by easy ramps and there is now also a lift. The campanile (bell tower), first built in 1467, fell in 1774 it was rebuilt in neo-classic style by 1791. The stonemason's contract provided that it was to follow Palladio's model and there were only minor changes. The façade, initially under the superintendence of Simone Sorella, was not commenced until 1599. The choir appears to have been designed in essentials by Palladio before his death and was built between 15. The decoration of the interior was completed subsequently. The work was not finished before the death of Palladio in 1580, but the body of the church was complete by 1575 except for the choir behind the altar and the facade. The model was completed and approved in 1566 and the foundation stone was laid in the presence of the Pope in the same year. He made great improvements to this and in 1565, was asked to prepare a model for a new church. Palladio arrived in Venice in 1560, when the refectory of the monastery was being rebuilt. The monks were considering the rebuilding of the church from 1521. There were cloisters in front of it, which were demolished in 1516. The church, which had a nave with side chapels, was not in the same position as the present church, but farther back at the side of a small campo or square. The church and monastery were rebuilt after the earthquake. ![]() The Benedictines founded a monastery there, but in 1223 all the buildings on the island were destroyed by an earthquake. The first church on the island was built about 790, and in 982 the island was given to the Benedictine order by the Doge Tribuno Memmo. The church is a basilica in the classical Renaissance style and its brilliant white marble gleams above the blue water of the lagoon opposite the Piazzetta di San Marco and forms the focal point of the view from every part of the Riva degli Schiavoni. San Giorgio Maggiore ( San Zorzi Mazor in Venetian) is a 16th-century Benedictine church on the island of the same name in Venice, northern Italy, designed by Andrea Palladio, and built between 15. Music math using 16th notes11/6/2023 ![]() This is exactly how people who are very experienced with sheet music use sheet music to understand what a composer intended. When you have enough experience working with reading music, when you see a concert pitch A, you will hear 440 Hz in your head. When you see a group of 4 16th notes, your eyes will skip over them in the same amount of time that it would take them to move over a quarter note in the same piece, provided that the music is flowing at the same rate, of course. It can take a long time to develop this skill. Most of the time, theory professors will teach students singing to help them develop the skill necessary to sight read. There is something about actually learning to sing that helps a lot of students learn how to read music. Of course, this likely has to do with the same effect that happens when children learn how to read. They already know how to speak, and all they are doing when they learn how to read is to interpret a written representation of spoken words. When you learn how to read music, you’re simply learning how to interpret a written representation of sung tones. Just like learning to read books, it’s best to start at the beginning with reading music. ![]() Start by learning the note names and how those names relate to pitches in your voice and on your instrument. There are several clefs that music can be written in, but the most common are bass and treble clef. Bass clef is generally used to notate lower pitched instruments and voices and treble is used for higher pitched voices and instruments. Piano students will need to learn to read both clefs since their music spans several octaves and is written in both at the same time. It can be helpful to use mnemonic devices to remember the note names. Find something that will stick for you and soon you’ll be able to name the notes without even having to think about it! The example below shows mnemonic devices that can be used for the lines and spaces of bass and treble clef, but the possibilities are endless. In addition to learning note names and how they relate to your instrument, it’s also a good idea to learn how they sound and feel when you sing them. Learning sight singing can make a big difference in how easy it is for you to read sheet music. Hyatt place santa cruz11/5/2023 ![]() All that said, still the best hotel I've found in Santa Cruz. This would have been a 5 star review if it weren't for the HVAC system. If no one is in the room, the HVAC doesn't turn on and it gets very stuffy, this also happens when you're sleeping. I think this is partially due to the motion activation that was mentioned on the room information card. This HP uses wall units which are not powerful enough to cool the room even with very moderate exterior temps (less than 80-85). Lowlight for me, for sure, is the HVAC system. Pool is a pool, not all HP's have them, so nice to see it! This one was over run with children though, so couldn't really relax too hard. Front desk folks are very courteous and acknowledged my status / gave me my perks without me having to ask. The staff was great! I don't know what it is about HP's and their valets, but this is the second time in a row that the valet stood out. Modern utilitarian feel, nothing feels / seems cheap, but you're also only really getting a place to crash and a grab-and-go snack / breakfast. If you've stayed at a Hyatt Place before, you know what to expect. I received an email asking to rate my stay, I responded with all the information and the hotel manager basically said "too bad". I really though I would chalk this up to bad experience but at $189/night and this being a HYATT I though it was not acceptable. I really did not understand this and told the front desk and I was told that the hotel was full and the a/c was operating at full blast. We turned on the air conditioning to help, and that's when the floor started shaking violently that the beds were shaking. The beds were incredibly uncomfortable, so uncomfortable that my daughter developed a stress-induced migraine. I was given a key, and told that valet parking was mandatory: Expedia said "parking available" which I naively thought parking was available to hotel guests, rather than mandatory valet parking of $19/day. I checked with credit card rep and was told that no charges were made. At check-in, I was told that the stay was not paid, and a credit card was taken this was odd as I had a receipt from Expedia that stated "paid in full".
